6.5 PRC MIN Ammunition Gauge

NOTE: There are 2 different sizes of this gauge. When the caliber was first released, some chambers were tight, closer to the SAAMI minimum dimensions at the base. But some of the brass available was larger than that SAAMI min dimension for the chamber, and as a result the brass was not fitting the chamber. To address this issue, many companies have gone to reamers with slightly larger base diameters(still within the spec), to ensure all brass will fit.

Our first 6.5PRC gauges were made with the SAAMI min chamber dimension, the same as all our other calibers. This failed a lot of brass. As a result, we have slightly enlarged the base diameter of our standard 6.5 PRC gauges to fit all the brass. If you have the larger chamber, the larger gauges are sold as the 6.5PRC gauges. The earlier spec, tighter gauges are called 6.5 PRC MIN.

This page is for the tighter, min spec 6.5 PRC MIN gauge that is the smaller of the 2 gauges we offer for this caliber. It will fail much of the commercial brass, and is only recommended if you have one of the earlier tight chambers. Click here for the larger 6.5PRC gauge.

SLOTTED GAUGES are an improvement of  existing ammunition gauge design. By taking an ammunition gauge and opening up a window into it, you can now actually see the shoulder, and how everything seats into the chamber. You can verify the fit visually. And see the interface between your ammo and a chamber that you would never otherwise see. This unique tool is now patented.

These gauges can help you both troubleshoot and improve your reloads and purchased ammunition.   Use as a chamber checker to ensure that all of your rounds will work in any of your firearms. Use as a go/no go gauge to check the ammo headspace measurements against SAAMI min/max.

These gauges have steps on the face to correspond to the cartridge spec minimum brass headspace measurement, and the minimum and maximum chamber length. The diameter of the gauge is SAAMI min chamber spec, which is larger than the max spec of the cartridge. The length of the gauge corresponds to the max length of the cartridge.

Any rounds that fit the gauge will chamber. Unlike other gauges, ours includes the throat and bore, so that when you check the loaded ammunition, you are checking the complete round, not just the case.
